Clarence R. Carper, Sr. 80, of the Colonial Court Yard, Tyrone, died at 5:28 a.m. Sunday, March 13, 2005 at the Altoona Regional Health System Bon Secours Campus.
He was born June 10, 1924 in Warriors Mark Twp., Huntingdon Co. a son of Adolphus Laporte Montgomery and Lottie V. (Reeder) Carper.
He was married September 18, 1943 in Tyrone, to Eileen Ellen Coover.
He is survived by his wife at the Colonial Court Yard, a son Clarence R. Carper, Jr. and his wife Deb of Mt. Joy and a daughter Donna M. Bratton and her husband Robert of Tyrone.
Also survived by eight grandchildren: Pam Frye, Tyrone; Tim Coover, State College; Jeff Coover, Altoona; Chris Coover, Hawaii; John Carper, Grazierville; Joe R. Carper, Tyrone; Robert J. Carper, Altoona and Clarence (Charlie) Carper, Mt. Joy; several great-grandchildren and three sisters, Marie Williams of Brisbin, Geraldine Coover of Sandy Ridge and Maxine Peters of Tipton.
He was preceded in death by sons George F. Coover and Elmer D. Carper; sisters Olive, Esther, Verna, Ethel and Pauline and brothers Theodore, Chalmer and Walter.
He was a member of the Hookies Fire Co. for 37 years.
A W.W.II Army Veteran serving in the sixth Armored Inf. in the European Theatre. He was an avid hunter.
He retired in 1986 from Narehood Stone and Lime Co. and New Enterprise after 22 years service.
Funeral service and Flag Presentation will be held Wednesday, March 16, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the Derman Funeral Home, Inc., Tyrone with Rev. James C. Bonsell, Jr. officiating. Private interment will be at Blair Memorial Park.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
