Tyrone’s Terry Tate pinned Mike Daub, Susquenita, 3:41 to advance in the first round of the PIAA Class AA Wrestling Championships at Hershey on Thursday.
Brice Mertiff fell to Mike Letts, Octorara. The Associated Press reported Letts won in a technical fall over Mertiff,16-0, 4:33.
Mertiff did win in the consolation round when he decisioned Jason Crawford, Wyalusing, 10-5.
Tate will wrestle Sam Krum (33-7), the Northeast Region Third Place winner from Bloomsburg in the quarter finals today.
In the consolation bracket, Mertiff will wrestle the loser of a quarter final match between Corey Checkan, Southwest champ from Southside Beaver (40-3) and Dan Van Dyke (34-7), the third place finisher from the Northwest Region from Lakeview.
