Mark the date of Saturday night, April 16 and the place the Tyrone Area High School auditorium on your calendars.
That is when the annual Tyrone-Snyder Township Public Library will be having its big annual “fun” raiser in order to raise money to cover the mortgage on the new library for another year.
“This annual concert has really become a community and area event,” said Chuck Banas, concert organizer and chairman of this year’s program. “People have been very impressed with the quality of the previous three year’s performances that we have brought to Tyrone to benefit the new library.”
Banas said the cuts passed down in the Pennsylvania state budget really cut into the libraries throughout all of Pennsylvania, making it extremely difficult to operate libraries throughout the area.
“This is another reason why this annual concert is so critical for the Tyrone-Snyder Township Public Library. We have had to tighten the belt and really cut back on expenses. Without this concert and the ability that it provides to bring the needed funds to pay the mortgage, I would be safe in saying that the educational and recreational activities that the Tyrone-Snyder Township Public Library provides to residents of northern Blair County would be in jeopardy,” added Banas.
This week’s featured concert act is known simply as the Foxtrot Dancers. They are a high energy level group that will provide a new type of entertainment for the library’s annual concert.
According to Banas, “This is a first for us. We have not had this type of entertainment showcased as part of our concert series. I am hoping that it will be well accepted. I know that they are professional in their presentation and do perform at a very high level of energy.”
Banas added that ticket sales continue to go very well for the upcoming concert.
“We still have three weeks to sell tickets and we are well over halfway to our ticket sale goal,” he said.
When asked what that goal was, Banas smiled and said, “Our goal is to try and sell out the auditorium seating.”
The Foxtrot Dancers will be joining Greta Shepardson, Kelsey Wilson, Barry St. Ives and from New York City the legendary group The Platters.
This is the fourth year the library board of directors has brought the concert series to the Tyrone Area High School auditorium stage. All of the monies that are raised are going towards the payment of the mortgage on the new Tyrone-Snyder Public Library located at the corner of Pennsylvania Avenue and Tenth Street in downtown Tyrone.
Tickets for the concert will be available up to show time the evening of April 16. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the show will start at 7 p.m.
Prices are $30 per ticket. All seats are reserved seating. All tickets are on a first come first serve basis. Also, there is plenty of free parking at the high school.
Tickets are available at the following ticket sale outlets: Healthy Alternatives, Bressler’s Food Mart and Sports, Kopp Drugs, Joybeans and The Tyrone-Snyder Public Library. In the Altoona area, tickets may be purchased at the Altoona Public Library.
Concert information as well as tickets may also be obtained via telephone by calling 684-7929 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
More information about the concert and the performers will be featured in an upcoming edition of The Daily Herald.
