As winter takes its final toll on families throughout Tyrone, many parents are faced with the “I’m bored” and “There’s nothing to do” statements of their children on a daily basis. One fantastic opportunity for youth ages 8-18 is the Tyrone 4-H Community Club.
This exciting new club will cover a variety of project interests such as sewing, pet care, woodworking, ceramics, bicycles, and art, and the opportunities don’t end there. 4-H members help plan and run meetings and club activities, serving as officers and teen leaders.
Younger members look up to these teens and await the day when they can be teen leaders themselves. 4-H’ers even gain valuable public speaking experience by giving club presentations. A screened, enthusiastic adult volunteer leader presents educational material and helps keep meetings running smoothly while developing lasting positive relationships with club members. The Tyrone 4-H Community Club will prove fun and worthwhile for all youth.
Now is the time to join. The club will hold its next meeting tonight at 7:15 p.m. The meeting will take place at the Tyrone American Legion at 1459 Lincoln Avenue.
Club members will make “plant pets” and discuss interests for future projects. Everyone is invited and everyone has something to offer. The group is also looking for more adult volunteer leaders to help with the club or to expand the program and reach even more youth. Contact the Penn State Cooperative Extension office in Blair County at 814-940-5989 for more information. Individuals can also visit http://blair.extension.psu.edu/.
