A fundraising consultant who originally hails from Texas has decided to give running for Tyrone Borough Council a try.
Mark Kosoglow was born in Texas in 1976 and after graduating from a private school in Mississippi, he enrolled at Penn State University where he graduated in 1998 with a B.A. in Marketing. As a student Mark worked full-time and was honored as one of the top 100 store managers in a retail chain with more than 2,500 locations. After graduating, he continued in the field of management at Nittany Notes where he received hands-on, small business experience. Currently, Mark works for Great American Opportunities helping local schools and school groups with fundraising.
A press release issued by the candidate stated, “In his fourth year with Great American, (he) is one of the company’s most consistent revenue growers and takes great pleasure knowing he is helping the youth of central Pennsylvania.”
Kosoglow has been a resident of Tyrone since 2000 when he moved here with his wife Julie to help Jim Kilmartin with the daily operations and ministry of Joshua House. He is currently a board member and plays a central role in the shaping of Joshua House’s impact and outreach in the community, including the purchase and subsequent renovations of the new building.
Kosoglow said the reason he decided to run for council was a feeling “it is time to focus more intently on the needs of the community he has come to love and call home.”
He said he believes in the economic power of small business and wants to make sure Tyrone benefits from the jobs, services, products and revenues these businesses create.
“With the future completion of I-99 to State College, Tyrone residents could seize many great opportunities for our town and our families,” said Kosoglow. “Opportunities like new businesses and better community living for present and future generations.”
His press release noted that being a businessman in central Pennsylvania for well over a decade, he is accustomed to identifying challenges, setting goals, and measuring progress.
His release said Kosoglow “sees what our community could have if we seize the moment we are currently in and take steps to ensure the success of our future.”
Kosoglow also detailed some specific ideas he’d like to focus on for Tyrone such as the need for an athletic complex, continued restoration of the downtown streetscape and buildings, creation of senior citizen programs which fill needs, reduced effects of drugs and alcohol, strategic planning to create an environment of profitable, growing small businesses, and wise fiscal management of tax dollars.
Kosoglow resides on Washington Avenue with his wife and their children (Maqqel age four, Mia age two and Sammy age one).
His release noted he has dedicated the past five years of his life to the betterment of Tyrone through community service.
The press release stated, “He is not a temporary citizen or just passing through.”
The candidate’s statement noted he had “put down roots and intends to raise (his) family, to continue to build a life in Tyrone, and to make Tyrone the best possible town in which (his) fellow residents can live and work.”
