The Tyrone Area Middle School and Senior High majorettes competed at the Keystone Indoor Drill Association Championships at Southwestern High School in Hanover on Saturday, April 2.
Each squad placed first in their respective divisions. The middle school squad also completed an undefeated season with senior high placing second in only one competition. This is also the first time that both majorette groups placed first in KIDA Championships.
Instructors for the middle school squad are Kristie Jackson and Amy Miller with some assistance from Carol Riley. Members of their squad are Annie Daughenbaugh, Alyssa Cox, Ashley Shuey, Lacey Bennett, Leisha Stewart, Shauna McClellan, Tej Feltenberger, Stephanie Bagshaw and Kayla Sprankle.
Instructors for the senior high majorettes are Wendy Ammerman, Melissa Watters, Kelly Ammerman, Kathy Banks and Carol Riley. Nicole Cartwright is captain and co-captain is Lindsay Johnson.
Squad members are Amanda Miller, Kristen Gurekovich, Britany Koegler, Ashley Cowher and Ashley Miller.
Drill design for senior high is Tom Mitchell, and staff for both groups include band director, Kris Laird; advisor, Merle Ammerman; Ed Gummo, equipment; Mort Snider, transportation; Justin Miller, scenery/backdrops and Lynsey Watters, Courtney Watters and Eric Hartsock, runners.
On Sunday, April 17 at the High School gym, the majorette booster organization is sponsoring an open house for these squads and some invited groups to perform in exhibition. The afternoon is honoring the graduating seniors, Nicole Cartwright and Lindsay Johnson for their six years of dedication to the TAHS majorette program and giving majorette families and friends a chance to see the Tyrone girls in exhibition.
For a $2 donation, individuals will help the senior high girls achieve another goal, to compete in the NBTA North Atlantic and All East Championships at the end of April.
The majorettes and all involved would like to send a special “thank you” out to Pat Hopkins, the majorettes’ seamstress and to the Dover Millionaires and McDonalds on Plank Road for their generous donations.
