Despite the focus on busing issues at last week’s Bellwood-Antis School Board meeting, board members still had other business to consider.
Following the public comment period regarding the busing, the board took a brief recess and returned ready to take care of business.
Chaperones Alice Flarend, Jon Goodman and Heather Prestash were approved for the PJAS State Competition in State College, set for May 15-17. The cost to the district for this trip is $831.50.
The speech team was approved to attend several upcoming competitions. The State Speech Competition at Susquehanna University will be held April 21-23. Dick Bower, Diane Johnson, Bill Edmiston and Andrea Brant will accompany the qualifying speech team at a cost of $3,200 to the district.
The speech team will also travel to the NFL National Speech Tournament in Philadelphia June 10-18 at a cost of $8,318.40 to the district.
An out-of-state trip for the speech team to attend the NCFL National Speech Tournament in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on May 27-30 was approved at a cost of $5,644.24 to the district.
Other approved trips include the indoor guard members, who will attend the championship competition in Wildwood, NJ April 27 through May 1, costing the district $1,000 and French students will tour the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC on April 26 for a district cost of $325.
Under finance, the board approved the Bellwood-Antis Community Library appropriation of $7,900 for the 2005-06 school year.
Rates for medical, prescription, dental and vision coverages were also approved. The average rate increase for Select Blue is nine percent; Tradition is 15 percent; Dental is eight-and-a-half percent and Vision is 9.9 percent. The total increase from 2004-05 to 2005-06 is $115,824.90.
Also, the board agreed to set the Superintendent’s salary increase at three percent, the Athletic Training Agreement between Drayer Physical Therapy Institute of Altoona and the school district for athletic training services for the 2005-06 year in the amount of $7,500 was approved and the Act 48, ESL and Strategic Plan additions to meet NCLB requirements was agreed upon.
