The Bellwood-Antis track and field teams continued on their quest on Tuesday at home defeating Bald Eagle Area.
The B-A boys, who blitzed Bald Eagle Area 110-40, were led by Dustin Harris (100 dash, 200 dash and javelin) who won three events and Ben Hatch (800 run, high jump) and Brandon Pruznak (400 run, long jump) who won two each.
Hatch’s time of 2:08.0 in the 800 reset his own school freshman record. Bellwood-Antis placed two people in all but one event and Tony DelGrosso won that one-the discus.
Bellwood-Antis (6-1) swept the 800, 1600 and 3200 runs and the pole vault, taking all three places in each of those events.
The 1600 relay team of Dan Kovac, Chris Edmiston, Hatch and Pruznak and the 3200 team of Aaron Bell, Liam Flynn, Evan Hughes and Edmiston won their respective races as well. Bell was first in the 1600 run. Elliot Geist won the 3200 run. Kovac won the triple jump.
“We were really happy to see a lot of our kids do something good,” said Bellwood-Antis boys coach Nick Lovrich. “Our sprinters came up with a bunch of points, They have been struggling We have great depth in our distance events. We swept 800, 1600 and 3200. Ben Hatch broke his own freshman record in the 800 for the third time this year. He still has a lot of potential. Our field kids have been very consistent all year. We have a lot of returning letterwinners in those events and they are scoring a lot of points for us. We benefit from having 41 kids out, when most of the schools we meet only have 20-something. Our numbers really help us and they are all contributing.”
The Lady Blue Devils (5-2) completed the sweep with an 87-63 win over BEA.
Jenna Ralston (800, 1600) and Steph Hatch (high jump, triple jump) both won a pair of individual events to lead the B-A girls.
Lauren Carter won the 300 low hurdles, Sarah Bell won the 3200 run, Ashley Mueller took the 100 intermediate hurdles and Stephanie Damiano won the discus for the Bellwood-Antis girls.
“Our girls did a real good job in getting two places in a lot of events against Bald Eagle Area,” explained B-A girls coach Julie Roseborough. “Most schools have people who will win first places, but what really wins track meets are the second and third places that sometimes go unnoticed. Step Hatch jumped really well and Jenna Ralston has been very consistent for us in the distance races. We stuck (freshman) Heather Greene in several events and she did a good job. Our field people have been getting better. They needed a lot of work at the beginning of the season and Robin (assistant coach Robin Campbell) has been working with them. The kids are getting better throws in every meet.”
