A pleasant day in Juniata Valley was the scene for a suspenseful meet between the Eagles and Hornets, resulting in victories for Juniata Valley in both matches. A disappointing day for the Lady Eagles ended with a final score of 58-91 while the men saw a much closer defeat, coming in two points shy of the Hornets with a score of 74-76.
The boys meet ran strong, coming down to points in the final event, the 1600 meter relay. Eleven first places were won for the Tyrone boys with winners including Bill Dean (100 dash), Erin Houck (1600 run, 3200 run), Chris Bradigan (800 run), Sean Ketrow (pole vault), Trey Brockett (long jump, triple jump), Ron Miller (shot put), Terry Tate (discus), and Adam Shaffer (javelin.)
The Eagles also managed a win in the 3200 meter relay with the team of Eric Sweet, Chris Bradigan, Nathan Barber and Erin Houck.
Another discouraging loss for the girls‚ team came with the 58-91 Hornet victory in the second meet of the afternoon. No relays were won by Tyrone, but the girls were consistently strong on the field with many personal records broken by several team members.
Juniors Emily Ingle (1600 run, 800 run) and Samantha Friday (100 dash, 200 dash) and freshman Elizabeth Tepsic (high jump, triple jump) each pulled in two victories for the team. The javelin was won for Tyrone by junior Katie Schreckengost.
The Golden Eagles prepare to return to Bellwood-Antis High School for the annual Bellwood Invitational on Monday, May 2 beginning at 3:30 p.m.
