The Tyrone Hospital Development Council has announced its fund raising project for fiscal year 2005-2006.
Randy Miles, Sr., Chairman of the Development Council, reported that funds will be raised to purchase a teleradiology system for the hospital’s radiology department at an estimated price of $30,000.
“The teleradiology system will allow the hospital to transmit digital diagnostic images, such as CT scans and MRI images, to physicians via the internet. This will give the hospital greater access to physicians who can interpret test results and also provide patient test results more quickly during evening and weekend hours. This would be especially beneficial to patients seen in the hospital’s emergency room during off hours,” said Miles.
Tyrone Hospital provides a wide range of diagnostic imaging services including x-rays, CT scan, MRI, ultrasound and mammography. The hospital also provides 24 hour emergency care.
Miles said the Development Council will donate all of the funds it raises this year towards the purchase of the teleradiology system.
“We are pleased to be supporting the radiology department this year,” said Miles.
The mission of the Tyrone Hospital Development Council is to support the healing mission of Tyrone Hospital. This is the Development Council’s fifth anniversary. Since the inception of the Development Council five years ago, the Council has purchased vital signs monitors for various hospital departments, intravenous pumps for the medical surgical unit, contributed dollars to assist in the purchase of the new CT scanner, and purchased an infant resuscitation bed and other equipment for the obstetrics unit.
The Tyrone Hospital Development Council conducts several fund raisers each year, its largest being an upcoming golf tournament, and a a tree of light event during the holiday season. Other fund raisers include book fairs, a shoe sale and a hoagie sale.
The Tyrone Hospital Development Council’s current fund raiser is its 5th Anniversary Golf Tournament & Outing. The tournament will be held August 24 at Sinking Valley Country Club. Miles said the event has been enhanced significantly this year in recognition of the council’s fifth anniversary year. The council is currently recruiting golfers, sponsors, golfer prize donations, and donations for a silent auction for the tournament.
