Hollidaysburg was able to collect just three hits off Tyrone pitchers Stefani Bryan and Hilary McNelis, on Monday at Hollidaysburg, but two of them came back-to-back in the Lady Tigers first at bat.
After Sarah Eckard and Alyssa Erb opened the home half of the first with base hits. Hollidaysburg pushed both runners around to score. First Lindsey Griffith, and then Alyse McDonald drove in a run each with a sacrifice fly.
The Lady Tigers Jess Walters allowed only a fourth-inning Hilary McNelis home run in posting a 2-1 win over the Tyrone Lady Eagles.
McNelis added a single and Missy Stager, Stefani Bryan, who pitched the first three innings, Ashley Ripka and Ashley Pennebaker singled as the Tyrone girls outhit their hosts 6-3, but couldn’t score any more runs off Walters other than McNelis four-bagger.
Bryan struck out one and walked one and McNelis fanned one and walked one for Tyrone with Bryan taking the loss.
Walters struck out six and didn’t walk a batter to pick up the victory.
“We did some nice things on defense. This was our second straight game without an error,” said Tyrone softball coach Lois Loncher. It was a very well played game, Hollidaysburg only made one error. We had two double plays. Megan Turiano did a nice job at third base as did Heather Stanton at first base. Some people have stepped it up on defense for us.
“Hollidaysburg only had three hits. Stefani Bryan pitched a good three innings. They were able to put two hits together in the first and that made the difference.”
