The District Six AA track and field meet is being held today at Altoona’s Mansion Park. Local athletes from both Tyrone and Bellwood-Antis will attempt to continue their seasons and qualify for the PIAA state meet, which will be held at Shippensburg University’s Seth Grove Stadium on May 27-28.
An added incentive this year, is the addition of a qualifier in each event. Beginning with the 2005 track and field season the top three finishers will continue on to the state meet, up from the two placewinners that qualified previously to the current track and field season.
Action will begin at 3:30 p.m. with the girls 3200 relay and continue into the evening.
Tyrone junior Emily Ingle has the only area top seed, with her time of 5:27.30 in the 1600 run. Ingle also has a third seed in the 3200 run (12:07.00) The only other Tyrone girl in the top three seeds is sophomore Elizabeth Tepsic, with a third seed in the triple jump with a combined distance of 34-4.
