Mrs. Claire A. Boran, 77, of 70 S. Pine Street Hazleton passed away Saturday morning at the Mountain City Nursing Center following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Boran was born in Weston, PA on January 8, 1928, the daughter of the late Amos and Mary (Rupert) Brosius. She had spent most of life in Hazleton but had also resided in Tyrone, PA.
She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Hazleton, PA and was a past member and Sunday School Teacher at Grazierville United Methodist Church, Grazierville, PA.
She worked as a Laundry Steward at Hazleton General Hospital Hazleton, before retiring in 1984. She had also operated the Boro Annex Bar and Restaurant, West Hazleton, had been a waitress at the Copper Kettle Restaurant, Hazleton and the Villa Restaurant, Tyrone, and had been a seamstress at the Big Yank Garment Factory, Tyrone.
She was president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Hazleton American Legion and VFW, and was also a member of the Ladybugs group of Hazleton VFW Post No. 589.
She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents by a brother Clyde “Barney” Brosius and a stepson David A. Boran.
Surviving are her husband of the past 19 years William J. Boran Sr.; daughters, Deborah Hoffman and Ruth Yutko, both of Hazleton; sons, Frederick husband of Ruth Bryan of Altoona, PA; William J. husband of Eleanor Bryan of Hazleton; and Terrance Randolph husband of Mara Bryan of Hazleton; a stepson, William J. husband of Nancy Boran Jr. of Hazleton; 20 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be held Friday at 11 a.m. from the Mark S. Harman Funeral Homes Inc. (West), Conyngham-Rock Glen Road, Rock Glen, PA with her pastor the Rev. Richard Hinkle officiating. Burial will follow in the Nuremberg Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
