Mount Union 7 Tyrone 5
In an 11 a.m. start on Saturday, Mount Union edged the Tyrone 11 & 12 year-old All-Stars in eight innings by a 7-5 count. Mount Union had to score a run in their last at bat in regulation, tying the game at 5-5, with a tally in the top of the sixth to send the contest to extra innings.
Tyrone was losing 4-1 going into the bottom of the fifth inning when Matt Myers hit a double over the Mt. Union first baseman’s head with the bases loaded to score all three runners and knot the score at 4-4. Korry Cowher grounded out to short to get Myers home with the go-ahead run to set the stage for Mount Union’s comeback.
Tyrone still had one more opportunity in the bottom of the eighth, but Mount Union retired Tyrone one-two-three to advance into Sunday’s championship game, while Tyrone fell into the consolation bracket.
Jordan Faretta and Jesse Shaffer each banged out a pair of base hits to lead Tyrone, while Myers and Cowher hit doubles.
Smith and Dixon each had two hits for the winners, with both of Dixon’s safeties being doubles.

Tyrone 7 Williamsburg 3
In the losers bracket, Tyrone scored early and often to bounce Williamsburg 7-3 in a 7 p.m. Saturday contest.
The Tyrone 11 & 12 All-Stars started off slowly with just a single run in the bottom of the first, then picked up momentum with three in the second, two in the third and finally another solo tally in the fourth.
Despite a double and two home runs for Williamsburg in the top of the sixth inning, Tyrone pitchers Jeremy Miller and John Kimberling limited the damage to just the sixth to insure the victory.
Miller struck out six and walked none in three innings, while Kimberling added two more strikeouts and also failed to give out any free passes over the final three innings.
Jordan Faretta, Richard Crabtree and Kimberling belted doubles and Jesse Shaffer drove in two runs to lead the offense.
