Jacob Belinda hurled a real gem during the Williamsburg baseball tournament last weekend.
Pitching for the Tyrone Area Youth Baseball Association Nine and 10-Year Old All-Stars, Belinda tossed a 15-0, no-hit, no-run game on Saturday, July 2, 2005 against Chestnut Ridge.
Belinda struck out eight and didn’t walk a batter in notching his masterpiece, which was shortened to four complete innings by the 10-run mercy rule. Only one Chestnut Ridge batter reached base on the Tyrone All-Stars lone error of the game.
Belinda also collected three of his team’s total of seven hits, going just a home run short of hitting for the cycle, with a triple, double and single.
Belinda’s teammates gave him a big boost on offense by blowing the game open early by scoring eight times in the first inning before the Ridge All-Stars even had a chance to bat. Tyrone then kept the pressure on with a single tally in the third and six more in the fourth to wrap up the decision. The offensive effort was helped by 15 walks from Chestnut Ridge.
Nate Soellner score three times and Justin Reeder, Corey Snyder, Dylan Weston and Bradley Wirtner each scored twice for the Tyrone Nine and 10 Year Old All-Stars. Kolten Taylor, Anthony Zimmerman, Snyder and Nick Mills each had a base hit, with Zimmerman clouting a double for the Tyrone Minor Leaguers, who dropped the championship final game on Sunday night to a big and talented Hollidaysburg team.
