According to executive director of the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society, Dave Hopkins, one skillful, or lucky, golfer may be taking home a brand new car from the Eighth Annual Humane Society Golf Tournament scheduled for Wednesday, August 24 at Scotch Valley Country Club.
Tournament organizer Dan Lawruk said in a press release that fees for the event include golf and a cart, refreshments on the course, lunch, hors d’oeuvres afterwards, locker room facilities, a long drive prize, closest to the pin prize, a putting contest and the awarding of a new car for a hole in one. In addition, the event will offer many door prizes.
The outing will also feature a special “media all-star” team composed of Marty Radovanic, WJAC-TV news anchor; Joe Murgo, WTAJ-TV chief meteorologist; Roger Corey, WALY radio D.J. and program director and Todd Parnell, Altoona Curve manager.
Major sponsors of the benefit outing include M & T Bank, Pepsi, Subway and S & T Bank.
The cost is a $400 entry fee for a four-person team. Individuals can sign up for $110. Tee sponsorships are $100 and greens can be sponsored for $75. For $15, non-participants can attend the awards ceremonies with hors’doeuvres.
The event will begin with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m., with a scramble format.
According to Hopkins, last year’s event drew over 20 teams including an “all-star media team” who competed in the event which raised nearly $10,000 to help the homeless animals at the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society located at 1837 E. Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona.

The golf tournament is just one of many fundraisers throughout the year to help the animals at CPHS.
Animal adoptions are extremely important to CPHS. The organization works hard to match individuals and/or families with the right pet. CPHS has a thorough adoption application and follow-up for the state required spayed/neuter program. It cares about the animals’ happiness and well being within the human environment.
