The 69th annual Bellwood-Antis Farm Show is scheduled to begin today and run through Saturday, September 10 at Bellwood Community Park.
Events kick off this afternoon with a Halloween decoration contest from 3-9 p.m. A scarecrow building contest will also be held at that time.
Participants are invited to carve their own pumpkin or make their own scarecrow Halloween items.
The deadline for farm show entries is 8 p.m. tonight. Although, baked goods may be entered tomorrow morning between 8 and 10 a.m. All exhibits will remain in place until 6 p.m. Saturday.
Tomorrow the show is closed for judging from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Activities get started with a garden tractor driving contest from 3-5 p.m. From 5-7 p.m. the 4H rabbit round-up will be held. The evening will end with a DJ and entertainment from 6-9 p.m.
There will be special events for kids and seniors on Thursday. Spelling bees will be held for elementary, middle and high school student in the B-A school district. The spelling contests start off with elementary at 5:30 p.m., followed by middle school at 7 p.m. and high school at 8 p.m.
At 6:30 p.m., the Bellwood-Antis high school band will perform.
Friday boasts many exciting events including a homemade soup contest at 3 p.m. and a homemade soup sale at 4 p.m. with take-out orders available. Entries in the soup contest will be accepted from noon to 3 p.m.
A pet parade will take place at 5 p.m., individuals can show off their favorite pet. Participants can pick up a form for the event at the show office.
At 5:30 p.m. students from Andrea’s School of Dance will present a dance/jazz program and a Halloween costume parade will begin at 7 p.m.
Again, the night will close with a DJ and entertainment from 6-9 p.m.
On Saturday, an archery competition will be held from 9-11 a.m. and a 4H horse show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
For all the young people in the B-A school district, a punt, pass and kick competition will take place from 10 a.m. to noon. Everyone can then take a break, relax and enjoy a chicken barbecue dinner at 4:30 p.m. Tickets will be available at the farm show.
The show will close with the B-A Farm Show public auction at 8 p.m. Exhibits are removed after 6 p.m. Articles not removed by 7 p.m. will be consigned to the auction. Exhibitors are encouraged to leave some entries behind for the auction and for the benefit of the show.
Every evening during the event there will be concession stand items available, run by various community organizations.
A farmer’s market will be open Thursday through Saturday from 3-5:30 p.m. with home demonstrations. Both personal and business demonstrations are welcome.
Other special contest that will take place throughout the week include Hershey’s greatest cocoa, PA blue ribbon apple pie, vegetable quick bread, and peqap angel food cake contests. Winners of these contests are eligible to compete for state awards at the PA Farm Show. There will also be a B-A plant sale hanging basket contest and a PA Fair Association poster contest.
