The Tyrone girls volleyball teams defeated Lewistown at the Tyrone Elementary High School gymnasium nets on Thursday evening.
The Lady Eagles varsity downed Lewistown in three straight games, 25-10, 25-15 and 25-18 to improve their MAC mark to 4-1 and overall record to 6-3.
Lindsay Christine led the way for the Tyrone girls with 19 service points and sophomore Cassandra Zimmerman made the first of her first start with 13 service points. Kim Cherry distributed 18 assists, Marissa Hoover had six kills and Katie Schreckengost added five digs.
“We had to start Cassandra Zimmerman, a sophomore, and she did a nice job filling in,” said Tyrone coach Dave Eckberg. “Marissa Hoover had one of her best games as an outside hitter, in attacking the ball.
“We did what we needed to do. We kept things simple passing and serving. That allowed us to come away with the victory. Hopefully this will serve as a tune-up for a tough week next week against Bellefonte and Philipsburg.”
The Lady Eagles junior varsity evened their record at 3-3 with a two games-to-none win over Lewistown, 25-7 and 25-9.
