Amberson D. “Soupy” Dean, 80, of 106 E. 10th St., Tyrone, died Tuesday morning, October 4, 2005 at the Altoona Center for Nursing Care.
He was born December 18, 1924 in Tyrone, the son of Edward D. and Anna Elizabeth (Hoff) Dean.
He was married February 10, 1948 in Tyrone, to Marjorie Wilson who died November 24, 1995.
He is survived by two sons and one daughter: Amberson George Dean of Tyrone, New Mexico; Edwin W. Dean (Melinda) of Tyrone and Frances Ann Flick (Donald) of Duncansville.
He is also survived by four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by a grandson Shawn C. Flick and a sister, Sally Meredith.
He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII and a member of the Tyrone American Legion No. 281; B.P.O.E. No. 212; VFW No. 4559; Moose Lodge No. 25; Bellwood Eagles and the Blazing Arrow Hook and Ladder Co.
He always enjoyed billiards, hunting and visits to his cottage in Delaware.
He retired in 1984 as a brakeman from Conrail after 42 years service.
There will be no public viewing.
A memorial service and flag presentation will be held Friday, October 7, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the Derman Funeral Home, Inc., Tyrone, with Rev. Gregory Ryan officiating. Interment will be at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood.
Friends will be received one hour before the service on Friday.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the Blair Co. Unit of the American Cancer Society, 1004 N. Juniata St., Hollidaysburg, Pa. 16648.
