The Tyrone girls tennis team hosted the State College netters at the Clay Avenua courts on Wednesday afternoon.
The State College Lady Lions shut out the Tyrone girls 7-0. Becky Swann, at the number one singles, was in her match against Kelly McGill all the way before dropping 6-4, 6-2 deecisions.
Tyrone coach Mike Hample singled out Swann’s performance and that of the Lady Eagles number one doubles team of Swann and Cynda Ormsby.
The Lady Eagles didn’t win a single game in the first meeting between these two teams, but improved to take 10 games this time around.
“Becky played her usual fine match before finally losing,” said Hample. “She has been very steady for us this season despite the record. All the girls are trying hard and getting better. Our number one doubles team was also very competitive out there today.”
The Lady Eagles (0-10) will host Central Mountain at 3 p.m. on Monday.
