Tyrone resident Will Jones is excited to start this year’s holiday season.
That’s because he’ll be playing Scrooge in A Christmas Caroled, a play and original score he wrote in 1996 based on the Charles Dickens’ classic. The production will be performed at the historic Mishler Theatre in Altoona. This follows Jones’ portrayal of Professor Harold Hill in the Cresson Lake Playhouse’s summer production of The Music Man.
“I had written A Christmas Caroled in 1996 because I didn’t think there was enough for families to do together at Christmas time,” explained Jones.
This production is something he believes the whole family can view and enjoy together.
In 1999, A Christmas Caroled was performed by the Tyrone Community Players, and in 2000 the Players performed a concert version of the production.
“It was really well-received in Tyrone,” said Jones. “This version at the Mishler is going to be much bigger and on a bigger stage.”
There are 40 people in the cast, some from Tyrone and Bellwood. The director is Oscar Stuckey, the choreographer is Alicia Lombardo-Jordan, and Terry Turner from Tyrone is the musical director.
Jones added that TCP has been very cooperative and has allowed the use of their costumes for this version of the production.
The show dates are November 25 at 8 p.m., November 26 matinee at 2 p.m., and November 26 at 8 p.m. Adult tickets are $14, senior tickets are $12 and children tickets are $8. Call the Mishler box office at 944-9434 for ticket reservations.
Also, the Tyrone Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring “Tyrone Community Support Section Seating” for the Saturday evening showing. If anyone is interested in these tickets, call Rose Black at the Chamber at 684-0736. The support section seating is on a first come, first serve basis.

Sponsored by Altoona Mirror’s “Season of Sharing”, M & T Bank, and Forever Broadcasting, proceeds from the show will go to benefit military mothers of the area and the Christmas Carol program.
