Tyrone golf team took to the links at Sinking Valley Country Club to finish their regular 2008 golf season.
Led by sophomore Jimmy Ferguson’s 2-under par 70, Tyrone was able to post up a non-conference win against Altoona and a conference win against Penns Valley, but Central proved to have to much depth for the Eagles to overcome.
Tyrone finished it’s regular season with a record of 9-3 overall and 6-2 in conference play.
Tyrone will have another chance to avenge their two losses, to Central and Central Mounain, in the conference championship at Iron Masters on October 1, when all conference teams will be present.
“We had a pretty good season,” said coach Greg Ferguson. “Jimmy played four of seven events under par this season, he played 126 holes at six over par for the regular season, that is consistent good golf. James Russell was placed in the #2 position this year, and prior to this season, he never competed in a golf competition, James improved every match and will be really strong in our future. Olivia Stever, a freshman, was a starter for most of the season, and will compete this fall against other lady golfers in the conference championships and girls’ districts as well. Ronnie Garbinski who is also a sophomore, will be with us moving forward and help our team improve. All said and done we had a pretty good year, and we will be pretty good for sure, in the next couple of years. Central has a really good squad, they have four seniors and they are all capable of breaking 80 each time. They will be difficult to touch in the championship.”
Scores for the match: Central (323)- Elder-79, Barnhardt-80, Dillon-81, Beach-83.
Tyrone (340)- Ferguson-70, Russell-86, Loose-92, Updyke-92. Altoona (354)- Foose-79, Helsley-82, Farrlee-94, Patterson-99. Penns Valley (397)-Mele-90, Kistler-97, Stahl and Meyers-105.
