A six-year-old boy was killed Monday night as a result of a stabbing at a residence at 1550 Pennsylvania Avenue in Tyrone.
The Tyrone Borough Police released a statement this morning to The Daily Herald that said they responded to a weapons call shortly before 10 p.m. Police found a homicide scene when they arrived.
Chief Joseph Beachem confirmed the child was stabbed to death. He said the child was the only murder victim but others were assaulted at the same address. He offered no details about how many people had been assaulted or their conditions.
Beachem said his department has developed “a person of interest” in the case. Authorities are looking for 25-year-old Nathan T. Shaw. The press release described Shaw as a white male, five feet, 10 inches with blue eyes. Shaw may be driving a red 1993 Nissan Sentra.
Beachem said Shaw should not be approached.
Beachem said they are not ready to release the name of the child. He also did not identify any of the other victims. Beachem said the reason behind the stabbing and assaults has not been determined yet. He also said police do have a witness in the case.
Beachem said the Pennsylvania State Police, the Blair County District Attorney’s office and the Coroner’s office assisted his department. Attempts were made to reach the DA’s office and the coroner, but they did not return phone calls by press time.
Beachem asked anyone with information regarding the crime to call Tyrone Police at 684-1364.
