The Bellwood-Antis wrestling team traveled to Everett for a dual meet on Wednesday evening. The Blue Devils won five weight classes in a row from 119 through 140 and then added three wins by forfeits in the last five weights to turn back Everett 47-28 to improve their record to 3-5.
The dual meet began with a no match at 103 with neither school fielding a lightweight. Everett actually weighed in a 103-pounder, but moved him up to 112, where Brandon Weiser made the move work by pinning B-A sophomore Donnie Partner (8-11) in 2:33.
That would be the last win for the Warriors for awhile however, and everybody knew Everett was forfeiting at 160, 215 and 275 as well.
Blue Devil freshman Timmy Collier (4-7) was all over Michael Feathers at 112, eventually pulling off a 16-0 technical fall with just one tick remaining in the third period of the match to bring Bellwood-Antis back to within a point of Everett 6-5 in the team score.
At 125, Shane Noye (3-2) received a win by forfeit.
Eli Colyer (130), Ricky Shawley (135) and Josh Ervine (140) then turned on a pin parade with all three registering falls. Colyer (12-3) pinned Brian Faust in 4:42, at 130, Shawley (14-3) decked Garrett O’Rourke at 135, in 1:04, and Ervine (16-4) recorded his team-best 13th fall over Joshua Wilt in 1:06 at 140 to jump the Blue Devils into a 23-6 lead.
Everett got pins from Asheton Grube over Dustin Harris (6-12) at 145, in 4:46, Peter Westwood over Ronnie Wilson (9-13) at 152, in 2:22, and Adrian Ritchey over Josh Keagy (3-12) in 1:08 at 185, and a 14-4 major decision by Lance Clark over Garett Wyland ( 3-14) at 171, but it wasn’t enough.
Mike Ballard (3-10) picked up a win by forfeit at 160, and Cody Smith (3-13) and Kris Morder (5-10) did the same at 215 and 275 respectively for some insurance points.
“We benefited tonight from the forfeits,” explained Bellwood-Antis coach Ron Wilson. “The forfeits helped us out considerably. Plus we got some bonus points for a change from the guys who did wrestle. For the most part, they all wrestled pretty well.”
Bellwood-Antis will wrestle both West Branch and Penns Valley on Saturday morning at West Branch beginning with the junior highs at 10 a.m.
