A 16-year-old Tyrone boy was critically injured in a one-vehicle accident in Snyder Township around 3:30 on Monday morning.
State police said the unidentified teen was traveling east on Decker Hollow Road and lost control of his car. The vehicle struck a tree and rolled over on its roof.
The car then fell about 25 feet down into a large culvert where it came to a final rest on its roof. The driver was trapped inside until he was freed by local fire departments.
He was taken to the Altoona Regional Center trauma unit where he was listed in extremely critical condition with a major head injury.
The state police reported in their press release yesterday that plans were being made to fly the teen to Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh. There was no further word about those plans or the driver’s condition as of this morning.
Police said the teen only had a learner’s permit at the time of the crash. He was not wearing a seat belt. His vehicle sustained major damage.
