Tyrone Community Players recently announced that tickets for the clever, colorful musical comedy Seussical, The Musical are now available.
The imagination-filled two-act show is based on the writings of Dr. Seuss, who delighted children and adults for decades with Whos and elephants, Grinches and cats, and pandoozels and puns.
The show is scheduled for March 17 and March 18 at the Tyrone Area High School. Curtain time each night is 7:30 p.m. Reservations for Seussical, The Musical can be made by calling the Tyrone Artsline at 684-ART2.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students and children.
According to a press release issued by TCP, the production is based on at least 14 of the Seuss books and features many of his best-loved and most familiar characters. Many of these characters never met one another before – but they certainly do meet in this playfully creative production. Throughout the evening’s escapades, some characters will fall in love, some will have desperate adventures and some will actually save the world. In the world of Dr. Seuss, a promise is a promise, and an individual never gives up on a friend, and those sentiments are echoed throughout the inventive production.
The press release also stated that there are serious concerns of life addressed in Seussical, The Musical as well but in such a light-hearted way that it is guaranteed to delight everyone who comes to see the show. Audience members will be reintroduced to such favorites as Horton the elephant, The Cat in the Hat, the Grinch, as well as an assortment of “the tall and the small” that all come from Whoville.
The pure power of imagination makes Seussical, The Musical a delightful show for children and adults.
Director Cindy Bennett is pleased with the progress being made by the cast.
“We’ve got a very strong group of actors making up our cast. We have young people and not so young people transforming themselves into birds, jungle creatures, elephants and kangaroos,” she said. “Everyone is full of energy and so willing to learn new moves and dances that fit the unusual characters that are portrayed. We have singing fish, dancing birds and talking trees. We had to figure out exactly what kind of movement was fitting for the dancing animals, then put it together with the music.”
Musical director for the show is Brett Keith of Tyrone, who Bennett feels is doing a great job.
“Brett is a very talented young man, and we’re very pleased that he is working with TCP again.”
For the big show, “the building”, home of the Tyrone Community Players, located at 1019 Logan Ave., Tyrone, will be bustling with last minute preparations for the upcoming presentation of Seussical, The Musical.
The primary area of concentration this Saturday, March 4 at 10 a.m. will be painting and completing set pieces. Individuals do not need theater experience to participate; the Players will be on hand for assistance and guidance.
If anyone is interested in helping, wear paint clothes and join TCP this Saturday.
More information about the production, including the main cast of Seussical, will be announced in upcoming editions of The Daily Herald.
