EBENSBURG, Pa. (AP) — Jury selection is scheduled to begin March 1 in the murder trial of a man charged with beating to death a fire chief in a barroom brawl.
George T. Lightcap IV, 29, of Nanty-Glo, is accused of repeatedly punching Ray E. Stringer on Aug. 19 after the two men argued inside the Nanty-Glo VFW.
Stringer, 43, chief of Neptune Volunteer Fire Department in Tyrone, was in Nanty-Glo for a firemen’s convention.
Lightcap is charged with first-degree murder, criminal homicide and aggravated assault.
Authorities said Lightcap hit Stringer, knocking him to the ground, and continued to punch him while he was on the ground.
The blows to Stringer’s head caused a brain injury that killed him, according to a pathologist.
