Elmer L. Walls, 77, of 1400 Cameron Ave., Tyrone, died at 6:30 a.m., Monday, March 27, 2006 at the James E. Van Zandt Veterans Hospital, Altoona.
He was born April 9, 1928 in Huntingdon Co., a son of John Burton and Sarah Margaret (Baird) Walls.
He was married November 9, 1949 in Tyrone to Lovie A. Updike.
He is survived by his wife and two daughters: Joyce A. Walls and Margaret D. Walls of Tyrone; two grandchildren: Tabitha A. Robison (Mike) and Alan Walls (Doreen); three great-grandchildren: Mariah Robison, Brett Robison and Rayann Walls.
A nephew, John L. Walls who was raised in the home, and several other nieces and nephews. He was the last of his immediate family, preceded in death by a sister Mae and a brother John E.
He attended the Tyrone Alliance Church and was a member of the Tyrone American Legion No. 281. He was an avid hunter and sportsman.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII.
He retired from J.C. Yenter Construction in 1990 and also worked for Paul Newman Construction. He was a crossing guard for the Tyrone School District for the past six years and a caretaker at Reservoir Park for 10 years.
Funeral service and flag presentation will be held Thursday, March 30, 2006 at 11 a.m. at the Derman Funeral Home, Inc., Tyrone, with Pastor Donald Robison and Larrie Derman officiating.
Interment will be at Eastlawn Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
