Three Tyrone Students competed in the Allegheny Mountain Gymnastic League (AMGL) “A” Team Championships held this past Saturday at the Greater Scranton YMCA, in Dunmore, PA.
Abby Cowfer (above right), eighth grade, daughter of Richard and Laurie Cowfer, RD 4, Tyrone, Jordan DelBaggio, (right), 11th grade, daughter of Edward and Jody DelBaggio, 2971 Pennington Road, Tyrone, and Jill Hiller, (middle) 12th grade, daughter of Scott and Debbie Hiller, RR#1, Box 535 Tyrone participated in this year-end event.
Each girl competed in four events: uneven bars, vault, beam, and floor exercise.
The highest possible score on each event is a 10.00. Jordan received a seventh place medal for her score of 7.80 on bars, and Jill received two eighth place medals, one for a 7.65 on bars, the other for a 7.75 on floor.
Jill was also recognized as a Senior, one of only five this year in the entire League.
The meet was Jill\’s last, capping a 15-year gymnastics career, that included eight years of competition, first on B Team, then A Team, under coaches Sue Parks, Kara Light, and Rita Hollibaugh.
Both Jordan and Jill recently competed in the Bronze Division PIAA States, with Jordan garnering a ninth place medal and Jill a fifth place medal on the floor exercise.
The three girls compete on the Huntingdon Community Center team, coached by Rita Hollibaugh and had been on the Tyrone Tumblers YMCA team, prior to its demise.
Another Tyrone Girl, Kristan Fry, daughter of Kevin and Annette Fry, 2531 Fry\’s Lane, Tyrone, will compete in the “B” Team Championships this Saturday in Lock Haven.
The AMGL has teams in Bellefonte, Garver YMCA (Roaring Spring), Hollidaysburg, Huntingdon, Lock Haven, Scranton, and Sunbury.
