Liz Tepsic and Emily Ingle sparked the Tyrone girls track and field team to a sweep in a triangular meet against Philipsburg-Osceola and Huntingdon at home on Thursday.
Leading the way, Tepsic won four events (100 IM hurdles, 300 low hurdles, long jump and triple jump) and Ingle won three events (800, 1600 and 3200 runs) and set a school record in the 800, breaking Alicia Davinsizer’s record of 2:23.4 set in 1996, with a new mark of 2:20.6, destroying the old standard by nearly three full seconds. This is Emily’s fourth record setting effort of the season.
Freshman Kayla Patton also broke a record with her winning 1:01.1 in the 400 dash, breaking the old record set by Christina Burnett (1:02.2) in 1999.
Marissa Hoover won the javelin with a toss of 112-10 for the Lady Eagles, who improve to 6-1 overall and 3-1 in the MAC division.
“We had an outstanding meet with a lot of the girls getting personal bests today,” said Tyrone coach Tony Yaniello. “It was nice to see both our boys and girls win their MAC division titles. The Penns Valley girls beat Bald Eagle Area last night, so we finished in a tie with BEA. We started the season against them, at a time when they had already had a couple meets experience. If we got them now, I think, it would be a different story.
“It was a great day for the girls. Kayla Patton and Emily Ingle broke records, Liz Tepsic had personal bests in both hurdles and her jumps were district quality efforts. Marissa Hoover set a personal record with 112 feet in the javelin.”
The Tyrone boys team clinched their division of the Mt. Athletic Conference outright by defeating P-O 90-60, and Huntingdon 131-18.
Trey Brockett won three events (high jump, long jump and triple jump), sweeping the jumps and Johnny Franco led off the sprints with victories in the 100 and 200 dash for the Golden Eagle boys, and Aaron Houck won both the 1600 and 3200 runs to lead the TAHS boys to their double triumphs.
Chris Bradigan won the 400 and Ben Ingle won the 800, Leonard Wilson won the shot put, and the Eagles took all three relay events as well.
Franco, Brockett, Ethan Etters and Wilson won the 400 relay, Bradigan, Ross Black, Brandon Gehret and Philip Kreckel won the 1600 relay and Houck, Bradigan, Ingle and Nathan Barber won the 3200 relay.
