The Bellwood-Antis track teams both earned MAC division championships on Thursday with resounding victories over Juniata Valley. The Blue Devil boys pounded Valley 126-24 to improve to 9-2 overall, and the Lady Blue Devils got back over the .500 mark at 6-5 with a 89-61 triumph over the Lady Hornets.
Brandon Pruznak won four events (200 and 400 dashes and high jump and long jump), Adam Mueller won both hurdles (110 high hurdles and 300 IM hurdles), Brandon Humphreys won the 100 dash and triple jump and Tony DelGrosso was first in both the discus and javelin and second in the shot put.
Ben Hatch won the 800, Josh Ervine won the 1600 and Jamey Rimmey won the 3200.
In addition, the Blue Devils won the 400 relay with Dustin Harris, Evan Celmo, Drew Saylor and Evan Hughes, the 1600 relay with Mueller, Patrick McCloskey, Celmo and Hatch and the 3200 relay with Hatch, Ervine, Dustin Pruznak and Eli Colyer.
“We got a dominating effort from the boys,” said Bellwood-Antis boys coach Nick Lovrich. “The kids were fired up with the chance to win the MAC division with a win today and they went out and did it. Some of the younger kids have improved to the point where now they are placing for us, which is always a good sign for the present and the future.”
On the girls side, the Lady Blue Devils got a spark from Erica Greene who won the 100 and 200 races. Ashley Mueller (100 intermediate hurdles and 300 low hurdles) and Sarah Bell (1600, 3200) each won two individual events, and Chelsea Wilson won the 400 and Lauren Leap won the high jump for the Lady Blue Devils.
The B-A girls won all three relays with Leap, Lauren Carter, Greene and Mueller taking the 400 relay, Carter, Jenna Nevling, Leap and Wilson winning the 1600 relay and Rebekah Colyer, Kelley Killinger, Brittany Webb and Amanda Houtz winning the 3200.
“We piled up the points in the sprints and jumps,” explained Bellwood-Antis girls coach Julia Roseborough. “We need to talk about some things in practice and hopefully get a little better balance in the field. We will get things straightened out. The girls did a nice job overall. It was nice to see Erica Greene, who has been solid, but hasn’t been in the highlights get two wins for us. It was very nice to be able to win our MAC conference.”
The Mountain Athletic Conference Division Meet for the teams in Divisions 3 and 4 will be held at Bellwood on Monday, beginning at 3:30 p.m., then the B-A track teams will finish their dual meet season at Huntingdon on Thursday with a triangular meet against Mount Union and host Huntingdon.
