The Women’s Health Center of Tyrone and Tyrone Hospital are co-sponsoring a women’s check-up day during National Women’s Health Week scheduled for May 14 – 20.
Thomas O’Brien, M.D., obstetrician and gynecologist at the Women’s Health Center of Tyrone, said during National Women’s Health Week, May 15 is designated as National Women’s Check-Up Day.
On May 15, Dr. O’Brien will provide routine women’s health exams at no charge. Tyrone Hospital will provide any tests ordered such as mammograms and pap tests, that are normally associated with a basic women’s health exam.
The day is also an opportunity to remind women of the importance of looking after their health by scheduling their routine annual exam.
“We want to provide complimentary exams to those who would not have access otherwise, because they are uninsured or underinsured,” said Dr. O’Brien.
Women who are interested in having a complimentary exam must call for an appointment. Appointments will be made on a first come, first served basis until all appointments are booked. Appointments can be made by calling 684-3639 or 888-437-7329.
In addition to the complimentary women’s health exams, the Women’s Health Center of Tyrone is also sponsoring its 4th Annual Mother-Daughter Day, an event offering free educational programs of interest to women on May 13 from 9 a.m. to noon in the classroom at Tyrone Hospital.
Speakers will include: author and former WTAJ-TV news reporter Marissa Carney, who will share her personal story of addiction as a self mutilator or “cutter” and explain how she triumphed and broke free from her addiction; Dede Kazmaier, image consultant with Color Me Beautiful, who will present “Why Look Okay, When You Can Look Terrific” and provide tips to show women how a few little changes can make a huge difference in one’s appearance and Georgine Safko-Dodson, MSN, RN Certified Holistic Practitioner, who will discuss “Caring for the Caregiver” providing information on how caregivers can stay healthy while meeting the demands of caring for others.
Reservations are recommended by calling the above number, as seating is limited.
