It was a tremendous day on the softball field for the Tyrone Lady Eagles, on Wednesday, as they shut out Bishop Guilfoyle 10-0 in a game that ended after sixth innings due to the 10-run Mercy Rule at Garfield Park in Altoona. This ballgame had originally been scheduled for last Friday, but the rain caused it to be postponed to Wednesday.
Wednesday’s victory began slowly with only three runs scored by Tyrone in the first inning by Ashley Pennabaker, Ashley Ripka and Kim Cherry. The second and third innings were slow for the Eagles, blocking any runs by the Marauders but failing to score any themselves.
Stefani Bryan tossed a two-hit shutout for the Lady Eagles to pick up the victory, striking out two and not walking a batter.
Play picked up again in the fourth with a phenomenal inning for the Eagles. With Bishop Guilfoyle walking three batters and making several critical fielding errors allowing the Eagles to bring home six runs from Pennabaker, Ripka, Megan Turiano, Stefani Bryan, Lindsay Christine and Teanna Kobuck, bringing the score to 9-0.
Game play slowed again at this point, becoming a back and forth battle for outs. Knowing that they needed only one more run to finish the game, Tyrone surged again in the top of the sixth. Ashley Pennabaker blasted out an amazing triple and ran home off of Megan Turiano who also scored a run to bring the final score to 11-0.
The Lady Eagles take the field against Philipsburg-Osceola on Thursday. The game is at Philipsburg at 4:30 PM.
