Tyrone Borough Police are investigating the assault of a man while he was walking down the street at about 11:30 yesterday morning.
In a press release, Chief Joseph Beachem reported his department was called to a residence in the 600 block of Washington Avenue around 12:15 p.m. The victim said two black men assaulted him. The victim had face and leg injuries, according to the press release.
Chief Beachem told The Daily Herald that the man was treated at Tyrone Hospital for his injuries.
According to Beachem’s report, the victim said he had been walking east on West 5th Street and he noticed two black men walking behind him. The victim said he then walked to South Lincoln Avenue near Shippen Street where one of the black men yelled “hey” at him.
The man turned around and he was struck in the face and fell to the ground. The press release said the assault continued while the man was on the ground.
The victim reported he thought an unknown object hit him. He also told police he did not know his alleged attackers. No arrests had been made in the case as of this morning and Tyrone Police were continuing their investigation.
One of the attackers was described as a black male/light skin with baggy blue jeans, medium to large build and short hair. The other attacker was described as a black male/dark skin, baggy blue jeans, large build, possibly with a shaved head. The police also noted one of the men was wearing a “dress” type shirt of an unknown color.
Chief Beachem is asking anyone with information on the incident to call the Tyrone Borough Police at 684-1365.
