For the second time in four days, Martin Oil had a game suspended due to rain on Friday evening. Due to a new rule in the George B. Kelley Federation this season, all games that can not be finished, are suspended at whatever point they have reached and continued later. Prior to this year, all games that didn’t go five innings were completely played over from scratch.
At Central High School, against Barkman Oil on Friday, Martin Oil, playing their fourth straight game of the season on the road, jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the top of the first. Singles by Kyle Drost and Chris Alley, sandwiched around Troy Brunner getting hit by a pitch, loaded the bases with two outs. Chad Coho punched a clutch single up the middle to score two runs and a third scored on an error.
Barkman scored twice in the home half of the first and had the bases loaded with two outs when the game was halted by the steady rain. With Earnie Kelley on the mound for Martin Oil, both Barkman runs were unearned.
On Tuesday, rain and lightning caused the Martin Oil/Park Furniture game at Juniata, to be suspended. With Martin Oil batting in the top of the sixth inning with a 10-6 lead, the umpires called everybody off the field due to lightning to end that try.
