Three Altoona men suffered injuries in a one-vehicle accident on State Route 550 in Warriors Mark Township on Sunday at 2:55 a.m.
Huntingdon County-based state police said a vehicle operated by 24-year-old Jonathan Derubeis was traveling south. Derubeis lost control of the vehicle for unknown reasons and went into the northbound lane.
Police said the car then traveled across the southbound lane sideways. The car’s driver-side door impacted a utility pole and the car slid around the pole and came to a rest.
Police said Derubeis suffered a major head injury as a result of the accident. Two passengers, Matthew Miller and Neil Benton, both 24-years-old of Altoona, were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Both Miller and Benton were not wearing seat belts. Police said Derubeis’ seat belt use was unknown. An update on Derubeis’ condition was unavailable at press time.
Police said Derubeis was suspected of driving under the influence and charges were pending as of their press release this morning. Warriors Mark Fire Rescue, Altoona AMED and Juniata Valley Ambulance assisted at the scene.
