Fun, friendship and fitness is the theme of the Swinging Squares of Altoona’s 2006 drive for new members.
A modern square dance club, the Swinging Squares are offering a course of lessons, beginning with two free lessons on September 7 and 14 at 7:30 p.m.
Have fun, make new friends and become more fit while learning. Each week learn new figures and review the previous lessons.
Many doctors recommend this dancing as good exercise and cardio for the heart.
The lessons are open to families, singles and couples. Swinging Squares recently celebrated their fourth anniversary with a dance featuring a guest caller from the Pittsburgh area. Seven clubs from the Central Pennsylvania area were represented. Visitation among clubs is one of the activities of the club.
Modern music, gospel and country is used as a background base for dancing.
The 13th Pennsylvania State Square Dance Convention was held on August 18 and 19 in State College at the Penn Stater Hotel.
Swinging Squares dance each Thursday at 7:30 p.m. until 10 .m. in Altoona at Our Lady of Lourdes Social hall, Broad Avenue and 27th Street.
