Colonial Courtyard speakers
This week is National Assisted Living Week and residents, staff, volunteers and families across the nation are celebrating, including those at Tyrone’s Colonial Courtyard.
Several guest speakers visited this week and Friday will bring more presentations. The public is invited to attend.
As a special treat, at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, noted Author and playwright Judith Kaye will be on hand. Judith is from Tyrone and will have autographed copies of her book available to purchase.
Also on Friday, at 1:30 p.m., Mary Bach, Consumer Advocate from AARP, will present “Know the Hitch in the Pitch”. A light lunch will be provided at 12:30 following the days activities.

Sight and Sound Theatre trip
The Warriors Mark United Methodist Church is sponsoring a trip to the Sight and Sound Theaters in Lancaster for the “Miracle of Christmas” show on Tuesday, November 14.
Stirring live vocals performed by a cast of 60, live animals, magnificent staging and special effects, and a heart-soaring finale highlights this joyfully reverent tribute to the birth of “God with us”, Immanuel.
Reservations are now being accepted. Money will be due in full by September 15. Call the church office at 632-6906 to guarantee a spot.

Fall festival
Grazierville United Methodist Church will hold a fall festival on Saturday, Spetember 16 from 5 to 7 p.m. There will be lots of fun, food and fellowship. There will also be games for the children.

Olde Fashioned Hymn Sing
First Assembly of God, 12th Street and Blair Avenue in Tyrone, will be having another “Olde Fashioned Hymn Sing” on Sunday, September 17, at 6:30 p.m. First Assembly’s Hymn sings have been very popular and well attended. All are invited to come and enjoy a free night of good gospel music.
Providing the special music on September 17 will be: Pastor and Donna Glunt, Idee Davis, Susan Bear, David Kaup, Norma Poullos, and “About Him Ministries” with Bill and Judy Jones.
TCP announces audition dates for A Christmas
Caroled
The Tyrone Community Players will be the temporary inhabitants of the historic Mishler Theater for a creative, musical retelling of the classic Dickens’ ghost story.
With an original adaptation and score by Tyrone resident Will A. Jones, The TCP presented the premier of this seasonal spectacular in 1999.
Auditions for this wonderful holiday musical will be held in The Building, home of the TCP, located at 1019 Logan Ave., Tyrone on Sunday and Monday, September 17 and 18 at 7 p.m. Please be prepared with a vocal audition. An accompanist and CD player will be available for your use. If you do not have a prepared piece of music, a song from the show will be taught for your audition.
Performance dates for A Christmas Caroled, under the direction of Cindy Bennett and Karen Mayhew, are November 24-26 in the beautiful Mishler Theater in Altoona.

Auditions are open to all persons and the cast consists of the following, all of which are singing roles: seven male principle roles, six female principle roles, one child principle role and a wide range of ensemble roles, many with speaking and singing solos and duets, for performers of all ages.

Class of 1955
The Tyrone Area High School Class of 1955 will hold its monthly get together on Wednesday, September 20 at 12:30 p.m. at Joe’s Place in Vail. Classmates, spouses and friends are invited.

Tyrone Area Chamber of Commerce Golf Classic Outing
The Tyrone Area Chamber of Commerce Golf Classic Outing will be held Thursday, September 21 at Sinking Valley Country Club. Four-person scramble with a noon shotgun start. There will be a beverage and snack cart all day. There will be T-shirts, prizes, contests and more. Looking for hole sponsors, door prizes and teams or individuals. Chicken barbecue
A chicken barbecue dinner will be held at the Tyrone Masonic Lodge on Saturday, September 23 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dinner will be served with applesauce, baked beans, a roll and butter.
There will be a limited number of walk-ins. Eat in or take out. Benefits the Tyrone Masonic Hall Association.

Sporting Clays Fun Shoot
Sporting Clays Fun Shoot to benefit Future Farmers of America will be held Sunday, September 24 beginning at noon. Fifty targets Lewis Class.
Celebrating 78 years of FFA, proceeds will be used for FFA projects and scholarships.
There is a fee to enter. Options, shooting games and lunch will be available. Trophies will be awarded by Lewis Class.

DCWV
The September meeting of the Descendants of Civil War Veterans will take place on Wednesday, September 27 at 7 p.m. at the Bellwood-Antis Public Library. The presenter will be Mr. Bob Broadwater who will speak on the history of the 62nd Regiment, Company M of the Pennsylvania Volunteers and what has become of their flag. The public is invited to attend.

Class of 1952
The Tyrone High School class of 1952 will hold a luncheon at Joe’s Place, Vail, on Thursday, September 28 at noon. All classmates and guests are welcome.
Family Place program
The Family Place program for children from birth to 3-years-old and their parents/caregivers will run on Saturdays from 9 – 10:30 a.m. beginning September 30 and ending October 28 at the Tyrone-Snyder Public Library. This is a five-week series of 75-minute programs with opportunities for children to play with developmentally appropriate toys in a play group atmosphere. It is also an opportunity for parents or caregivers to meet and question community professionals in the areas of child development, speech and language, nutrition, play, movement and music. Farm/City Day
Rotary Club of Tyrone’s 23rd annual Farm/City Day will be held Saturday, September 30 at Reservoir Park from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Reservations for booths are now being accepted, including food, crafts, display or promotional. Call Bud Boom at 931-9152 for more information. There will be a live petting zoo, entertainment, food, hay wagon rides and fun. Tickets for the chicken barbecue can be purchased in advance from any Rotarian, Kelly Wike’s State Farm office or the Tyrone Area Chamber of Commerce office.
Chicago Rivet retirees
The Chicago Rivet retirees will hold their monthly breakfast at Joe’s Place at 8:30 a.m.
Meetings are scheduled for the rest of the year, including October 12, November 9 and December 14.

Octoberfest
Octoberfest will be held at the Warriors Mark United Methodist Church on Saturday, October 21 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Artisans, crafters and vendors are wanted to sell their artwork, crafts, handwork, etc. Registration deadline for table space is October 13. Call 632-6906.

Tyrone Business and Career Expo
The Tyrone Business and Career Expo, BAH and New Middle School tour, sponsored by the Tyrone Area Chamber of Commerce and the Tyrone Area High School will be held Thursday, October 19 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Tyrone Area High School cafeteria. Lunch will be available. Any student and/or the public may attend.

Light the Night
Mom and dad, kids of all ages come to “Light the Night”, October 26, from 6-8 p.m. “Light the Night” is a safe and supervised Halloween night environment. Games, prizes, puppets, face painting, candy, hotdogs, hot popcorn and beverages, all will be provided free. “Light the Night” will be in the parking lot behind Burger King, and is sponsored by First Assembly of God Church.

Master Beekeeper
Master Beekeeper will make educational and informative presentation to a class or group on honeybees and beekeeping. For more information, call 684-1783.

Bible study class
The Tyrone Church of the Brethren has added a Saturday morning Bible study to its educational opportunities. The class is held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Everyone is welcome.

Preschool openings
A Child’s Garden Preschool, located at the Tyrone Church of the Brethren, has a few openings for children ages three to five-years-old, for the 2006-07 school year.
