Class of 1952
The Tyrone High School class of 1952 will hold a luncheon at Joe’s Place, Vail, on Thursday, September 28 at noon. All classmates and guests are welcome.

Sprouting Readers program
The Sprouting Readers program will start Thursday, September 28 at 6:30 p.m. at the Tyrone Library. This will continue each Thursday evening through November 2. This program is a non-traditional story time for children of working caregivers unable to attend regularly scheduled storytimes at the library. There is no registration, just bring your children.

TACO youth football competition
TACO will be holding a youth football competition on Sunday, October 1 at Ferner Field. Sign up will be at 1 p.m. and the competition will start at 2 p.m. The age groups for boys and girls are five to six; seven to eight; nine to 10 and 11 to 12. Please wear sneakers only, no cleats. Rain date will be October 8.

Swiss steak/ham dinner
A choice of Swiss steak or ham dinner will be available at the Port Matilda Fire Company on Sunday, October 1 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Also included will be vegetables, dessert and a drink.
Takouts are available. Open to everyone.

B.E. Sportsmen Turkey Shoots
The turkey shoots at the Bald Eagle Sportsmen will be starting on Wednesday, October 4. Starting time will be at 7:30 p.m. Please note the shoots are now on Wednesday nights. The Sportsmen is located on Rt. 350 about one mile from the intersection at Snappy’s. Look for the Sportsmen sign on the right.
The kitchen will be open for a light snack. Anyone with questions should call Tim at 684-5045.
Buffet dinner
The Warriors Mark United Methodist Church will host a buffet dinner on Friday, October 6 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The dinner will feature roast pork, chicken casserole supreme, mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, butter peas, tossed salad, applesauce, roll and ice cream with toppings. Children ages four-years-old and under eat for free.
The Warriors Mark UM Church is handicapped accessible. Anyone with questions can contact the church office at 632-6906.

Bellwood Quilting Bees
The Bellwood Quilting Bees will have a Quilt Show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, October 7 at the Logan Valley Presbyterian Church in Bellwood.
The show is being held in conjunction with the Tuckahoe Street Fair being held that day at the Bellwood Firehall on S. 1st St.
The church is located across the street from the fair.

Auxiliary meeting
The next meeting of the Tyrone American Legion Auxiliary will be held on October 9 at 7 p.m. at the Legion Home.
All 2007 auxiliary dues are now due. These can be paid at the Legion Post. New member applications are no being accepted.

Country Fair luncheon
Don’t miss the Country Fair luncheon on Wednesday, October 11 at the Ramada Inn, Banquet Room C at noon.
The special feature will be the annual country fair. Everyone will have an opportunity to purchased items for themselves or loved ones.
Special music will be presented by Debbie Kann of Tyrone. The guest speaker will be Jo Knipe of Maryland. Her theme will be “Discovering reality in a changing world.”

Chicago Rivet retirees
The Chicago Rivet retirees will hold their monthly breakfast at Joe’s Place at 8:30 a.m.
Meetings are scheduled for the rest of the year, including October 12, November 9 and December 14.

Octoberfest
Octoberfest will be held at the Warriors Mark United Methodist Church on Saturday, October 21 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Artisans, crafters and vendors are wanted to sell their artwork, crafts, handwork, etc. Registration deadline for table space is October 13. Call 632-6906.

NARFE
Members of Chapter 328, National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association met at noon on September 8 at King’s Restaurant for lunch and a business meeting. The chapter’s next meeting will be at noon on October 13 at King’s. All active and retired Federal employees and spouses are welcome.

Tyrone Prayer Shawl Ministry
Join in making prayer shawls for those in need. The meeting will be Saturday, October 14 at 10:30 a.m. at the Tyrone Church of the Brethren, located at the corner of Adams Avenue and 18th Street. Call Ellie with questions at 684-1771.

TACO Halloween parade
TACO Halloween parade will be held Tuesday, October 17 at 6 p.m. Registration for the costume judging will start at 4:30 p.m. at the Tyrone highway Dept. Parade line up will begin at 5 p.m. in front of the Highway Dept.

Tyrone Business and Career Expo
The Tyrone Business and Career Expo, BAH and New Middle School tour, sponsored by the Tyrone Area Chamber of Commerce and the Tyrone Area High School will be held Thursday, October 19 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Tyrone Area High School cafeteria.
Lunch will be available. Any student and/or the public may attend.

New York City bus trip

The Aleutian Island Military Veterans will reunite October 25-27 at 2 p.m. in Williamsport. All service branches veterans, guests and spouses are welcome. Light the Night
Mom and dad, kids of all ages come to “Light the Night”, October 26, from 6-8 p.m. “Light the Night” is a safe and supervised Halloween night environment. Games, prizes, puppets, face painting, candy, hotdogs, hot popcorn and beverages, all will be provided free. “Light the Night” will be in the parking lot behind Burger King, and is sponsored by First Assembly of God Church.

Tyrone Renaissance
The Tyrone Middle and High School Renaissance would like to encourage grandparents to come and help out with the sundae bars for the students’ good grades. If interested, please call 684-4240 ext. 1.

Master Beekeeper

Bible study class
The Tyrone Church of the Brethren has added a Saturday morning Bible study to its educational opportunities. The class is held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Everyone is welcome.

Preschool openings
A Child’s Garden Preschool, located at the Tyrone Church of the Brethren, has a few openings for children ages three to five-years-old, for the 2006-07 school year.

Tyrone Salvation Army now open
The Tyrone Salvation Army is now open at its new location at 908 Pennsylvania Avenue, Tyrone. It’s open Monday through Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The Tyrone Salvation Army always accepts clothing and food items. It also accepts appliances, bedding, etc. It is currently in need of children’s clothing.
Monetary contributions can be mailed to: Salvation Army Service Center, P.O. Box 142 Tyrone, PA 16686 and can also be dropped off at the 908 Pennsylvania Avenue location. The phone number is 684-1664.

Home Nursing Agency holds grief support group
Home Nursing Agency is holding a grief support group designed for those who have experienced the loss of a loved one. Join the Agency’s grief counselors as they discuss and share with others who are experiencing similar situations.
The group will meet the first Sunday of the month from 4 – 5 p.m. through December 3. The meetings will be held in Altoona at Home Nursing Agency’s office located at 215 Lakemont Blvd., by the Casino. Parking is available in ‘Lot D’. WMUMC Preschool
The Warriors Mark United Methodist Church Preschool, located at 1840 Centre Line Rd., Warriors Mark, is now enrolling students for the 2006-07 school year. The preschool provides a loving, creative learning environment for a child’s first preschool experience.
Programs are offered for three, four and five-year-olds, which runs September through May. Three-year-olds attend class two days a week on Tuesday and Thursday and four and five-year-olds attend class three days a week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Classes are held from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Call 632-6906 for more information or to obtain a registration packet.
