During the week of September 11, residents, staff, volunteers and families across the nation celebrated National Assisted Living week.
Tyrone’s Colonial Courtyard also took part in the celebration by planning a special week of activities including several guest speakers.
One special guest was noted author and playwright Judith Kaye.
The motivational speaker is the author of “Pieces of a Life” where she shares the wisdom and humor she gained from years of writing her memoirs.
Formerly Judith Eckroth, Kaye graduated from Tyrone High School in 1960. She now resides in Florida. She uses her background as a former beauty shop owner, Weight Watchers instructor, businesswoman and homemaker as the basis of her memoirs.
“I kept diaries from the time I was nine-years-old,” said Kaye. “I always liked to express myself on paper.”
She was a reporter and feature editor for the Tyrone High School newspaper, The Spokesman. She also used writing throughout life as communication skills in her businesses and as a Weight Watchers instructor. However, it wasn’t until Kaye started taking college writing courses that she finally received the encouragement and recognition she needed to begin writing her memoirs.
Kaye had copies of her book available for purchase during her visit and also took time to autograph copies.
