The Bishop Guilfoyle golf team (5-8) sprinted out to an easy win over Bellwood-Antis and Philipsburg-Osceola (5-8) at Sylvan Hills on Thursday. Due to the rain that hit the area in midafternoon, the match was shortened to nine holes, instead of the usual 18.
Jimmy Watters carded the low score for Bellwood-Antis with a 44, Kyle Shawley was a stroke back with a 45, and Matt Beech and Tom Trexler posted 47s for the Blue Devils, who lost to BG 183-160 and Philipsburg-Osceola 183-179.
Bishop Guilfoyle’s twosome of Brian Weimer and Jarod Brumbaugh shared medalist honors with rounds of 39, and BG’s Matt Rito and Joe Maier and Philipsburg-Osceola’s Dean Woodring all played the front nine in 41.
Tyler Lucas had a 48, and John Klein had a 66 for Bellwood-Antis, while Derrick Batts had a 59 playing an exhibition as the Blue Devils seventh golfer. In a high school golf match, six players have the possibility of counting towards the team score with the lowest four scores used to arrive at the team total. The team with the lowest total is the winner. Any players after the first six are designated exhibition at the time the match starts.
Bellwood-Antis (1-12) will be in action on Monday, Oct. 2 for the District 6 Sectional which will be held at the Sinking Valley Country Club, beginning at 10 a.m.
