Buffet dinner
The Warriors Mark United Methodist Church will host a buffet dinner on Friday, October 6 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The dinner will feature roast pork, chicken casserole supreme, mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, butter peas, tossed salad, applesauce, roll and ice cream with toppings. Children ages four-years-old and under eat for free.
The Warriors Mark UM Church is handicapped accessible. Anyone with questions can contact the church office at 632-6906.

Bellwood Quilting Bees
The Bellwood Quilting Bees will have a Quilt Show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, October 7 at the Logan Valley Presbyterian Church in Bellwood.
The show is being held in conjunction with the Tuckahoe Street Fair being held that day at the Bellwood Firehall on S. 1st St.
The church is located across the street from the fair.

Pumpkin patch used book sale
The Epworth Manor Auxiliary will be holding its annual Pumpkin Patch/Used Book Sale to benefit the Home\’s Care Assurance Fund, Saturday, October 7 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the lobby of the Skilled Nursing Facility, 951 Washington Ave., Tyrone. Auxiliary meeting
The next meeting of the Tyrone American Legion Auxiliary will be held on October 9 at 7 p.m. at the Legion Home.
All 2007 auxiliary dues are now due. These can be paid at the Legion Post. New member applications are now being accepted.

Country Fair luncheon
Don’t miss the Country Fair luncheon on Wednesday, October 11 at the Ramada Inn, Banquet Room C at noon.
The special feature will be the annual country fair. Everyone will have an opportunity to purchased items for themselves or loved ones.
Special music will be presented by Debbie Kann of Tyrone. The guest speaker will be Jo Knipe of Maryland. Her theme will be “Discovering reality in a changing world.”

Chicago Rivet retirees
The Chicago Rivet retirees will hold their monthly breakfast at Joe’s Place at 8:30 a.m.
Meetings are scheduled for the rest of the year, including October 12, November 9 and December 14.

Speakers at Community Worship Center
Dan and Pearlyn Stultz of Time Ministries from Bedford, PA, will be ministering at the Community Worship Center located at 1300 Bald Eagle Ave., Tyrone on Sunday, October 15 at the 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. services. Nursery will be available for both services.
From 1994 to 2003, they both served at the Spring Meadow Family Worship Center in Fishertown, Pennsylvania, on the worship team as worship leader and pianist/keyboard player. They also served in the Christian Education and Youth Ministry Departments. In the summer of 2001, God called them to this ministry. They waited two years, during which time, God confirmed the call over and over. Finally, in December 2003, they stepped down from ministries at Spring Meadow to fulfill God\’s call on their lives.

Blair Co. Genealogical Society
The Blair County Genealogical Society will meet at 7 p.m. October 19 at the Roller Hojeth Memoril Library, 431 Scotch Valley Road, Hollidaysburg. The evening’s speaker will be Joe Conlon, a member of the Society. His topic will be on 10th Street, Altoona. Joe has numerous old pictures and post cards of that area. The program is free and open to the public.
Octoberfest
Octoberfest will be held at the Warriors Mark United Methodist Church on Saturday, October 21 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Artisans, crafters and vendors are wanted to sell their artwork, crafts, handwork, etc. Registration deadline for table space is October 13. Call 632-6906.

NARFE
Members of Chapter 328, National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association met at noon on September 8 at King’s Restaurant for lunch and a business meeting. The chapter’s next meeting will be at noon on October 13 at King’s. All active and retired Federal employees and spouses are welcome.

Tyrone Prayer Shawl Ministry

TACO Halloween parade
TACO Halloween parade will be held Tuesday, October 17 at 6 p.m. Registration for the costume judging will start at 4:30 p.m. at the Tyrone highway Dept. Parade line up will begin at 5 p.m. in front of the Highway Dept.

Tyrone Business and Career Expo
The Tyrone Business and Career Expo, BAH and New Middle School tour, sponsored by the Tyrone Area Chamber of Commerce and the Tyrone Area High School will be held Thursday, October 19 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Tyrone Area High School cafeteria. Lunch will be available. Any student and/or the public may attend.

Holiday bazaar
A holiday bazaar will be held at the American Legion Post on Saturday, October 21 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Crafters and vendors are wanted to sell their crafts, handiwork and products.

Light the Night
Mom and dad, kids of all ages come to “Light the Night”, October 26, from 6-8 p.m. “Light the Night” is a safe and supervised Halloween night environment. Games, prizes, puppets, face painting, candy, hotdogs, hot popcorn and beverages, all will be provided free. “Light the Night” will be in the parking lot behind Burger King, and is sponsored by First Assembly of God Church.

Light the Night at Lynn and Shelby Shaffer’s residence located at 2114 Columbia Ave. will be held October 26. Bring the whole family out for a safe night of fun with games, music, food and door prizes during the trick or treat times of 6 to 8 p.m. Beginning at 8 p.m. a youth rally will be held with speaker Mark VanOuse of WTLR Radio. United Way of Blair County helps community members find low cost prescription coverage
Need prescription assistance but not sure how you can find help?
Once a month beginning Thursday, October 26, the United Way of Blair County will be taking appointments for community members who lack prescription coverage to help get the medicines they need through a public or private program that\’s right for them. With the help of The Partnership for Prescription Assistance clients can bring a list of medications they have and work with a United Way VISTA member to find programs that help them pay for their prescriptions. More than 2,500 brand-name and generic medicines are covered. Appointments will be every 15 minutes between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Call Sarah Ergler at (814)944-0884 to set up your appointment. This service is completely free and confidential.
The United Way of Blair County is a volunteer-driven organization that unites people to care for one another.

High Tea at Trinity Episcopal Church
Purple Iris, one of the last of artist Andy Moore’s water colors, will be featured at the third annual High Tea at the Trinity Episcopal Church. The gorgeous painting, which is 15 inches by 25 inches, will be offered in a raffle. The painting was previously on display at the Tyrone Hospital and was left to the church by Andy to use as a fundraiser. Andy, who died in late May, was a well-known artist previously living in Birmingham. This is the last of Andy’s works to be offered to the public.
The popular high tea will take place on December 2 at 4 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church on Washington Avenue. Tickets for the tea or chances for the painting may be obtained from any church member or by calling Honey Wilson at 684-2055.
Master Beekeeper
Master Beekeeper will make educational and informative presentation to a class or group on honeybees and beekeeping. For more information, call 684-1783.

Bible study class
The Tyrone Church of the Brethren has added a Saturday morning Bible study to its educational opportunities. The class is held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Everyone is welcome.

Preschool openings
A Child’s Garden Preschool, located at the Tyrone Church of the Brethren, has a few openings for children ages three to five-years-old, for the 2006-07 school year.

Tyrone Salvation Army now open
The Tyrone Salvation Army is now open at its new location at 908 Pennsylvania Avenue, Tyrone. It’s open Monday through Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The Tyrone Salvation Army always accepts clothing and food items. It also accepts appliances, bedding, etc. It is currently in need of children’s clothing.
Monetary contributions can be mailed to: Salvation Army Service Center, P.O. Box 142 Tyrone, PA 16686 and can also be dropped off at the 908 Pennsylvania Avenue location. The phone number is 684-1664.

Home Nursing Agency holds grief support group
Home Nursing Agency is holding a grief support group designed for those who have experienced the loss of a loved one. Join the Agency’s grief counselors as they discuss and share with others who are experiencing similar situations.
The group will meet the first Sunday of the month from 4 – 5 p.m. through December 3. The meetings will be held in Altoona at Home Nursing Agency’s office located at 215 Lakemont Blvd., by the Casino. Parking is available in ‘Lot D’. WMUMC Preschool
The Warriors Mark United Methodist Church Preschool, located at 1840 Centre Line Rd., Warriors Mark, is now enrolling students for the 2006-07 school year. The preschool provides a loving, creative learning environment for a child’s first preschool experience.
Programs are offered for three, four and five-year-olds, which runs September through May. Three-year-olds attend class two days a week on Tuesday and Thursday and four and five-year-olds attend class three days a week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Singles 45 Plus
Singles 45 Plus meets every third Tuesday of the month. Interested individuals are invited to come for a meal and to socialize. Those attending would be responsible for their dinner, drinks or desserts.
Meetings are held at King’s Restaurant, 6th Avenue and 31st Street.

Breaking Bread Ministry
The Church of the Good Shepherd wants those within the community and surrounding areas to know that Breaking Bread Ministry is on-going, not just during the Lenten season. One has only to inquire at the church or call 684-1955 between 9 a.m. and noon during the week to confirm Breaking Bread Ministry is open to all and eager to support those who request this service. The Church of the Good Shepherd has selected this ministry as a way to provide assistance, and is finding that Breaking Bread Ministry is becoming of growing interest throughout the area.

Presbyterian preschool
Individuals are invited to register their children now at the Presbyterian Preschool on Logan Avenue and 13th Street.
Presbyterian preschool has provided classes for the three and four-year-old children of the community since 1969. The 2006 fall term begins their 37th year. Call 684-2003 for information about the program and to schedule a visit.
