Huntingdon played one of its best games of the season Tuesday at home against Bald Eagle Area. Cory Barnett had two goals and an assist as the Bearcats never gave the Bald Eagles a chance in a 6-0 Mountain Athletic Conference win at Detwiler Field.
It was a pretty dominating performance by the Bearcats (10-3-1) as Bald Eagle did not have any shots on goal. Jake Cunningham had two assists and four other players each scored goals. This was also the fourth shutout win for Huntingdon on the year, but the first since opening the campaign with three in a row.
“Our offense talked tonight. Communicating was one of the biggest things we’ve been going over,” Huntingdon head coach John Miller said. “All the things we can do, and should be able to do on a regular basis, we put together tonight. It was a solid defensive effort.
“Matt Minor played really well coming out of the back. Chason Kratzer did a great job. Everybody did well. When we put it together, we can be a really good team and that’s been our challenge so far.”
The first goal of the night came five minutes into the match. Cunningham got the ball to Kratzer near the left post and he hit the opposite corner of the net.
During most of the first half, the Bearcats were setting up shots, but not adding to the lead. Barnett made it 2-0 with his goal on a penalty kick with five minutes to go until the break.
Huntingdon picked up its play a notch in the second half and added four more goals. Minor sent a great cross into the box and Barnett was there to put his head on the ball for the third goal. Toby Morelli made it 4-0 when he beat Wes Milliron with a shot to the left corner. Minor sent a rebound back in to make the score 5-0. Late in the game, Tyler Morelli picked up the last goal on another penalty kick that went off Milliron’s hands, hit the left post and richocheted into the net.
The junior varsity contest also went in favor of the Bearcats 5-0.
Huntingdon plays Bellefonte Thursday at Detwiler Field.
