Indian Valley’s boys and girls swept an invitation-style cross country meet to close out the regular season Tuesday afternoon at Alexandria.
The IV boys had 19 points to dominate the competition. Lewistown finished second with 49 points and Mount Union third with 81. Juniata Valley had only three runners and did not count in the team standings.
The Warrior girls posted 22 points to easily out-distance runner-up Juniata Valley (48) and third-place Mount Union (68). Lewistown did not have enough girls running to score in the team standings.
Caitlin Heller of Indian Valley was the first girl across the finish line, completing the 3.1-mile course in 21:50. Mount Union freshman Katrina Woods was second overall in 21:12, followed by IV’s Katelin Korona (23:21) and Jessica Walters (23:29). Juniata Valley freshman Nastazia Stallman came in fifth with a time of 23:45.
The Green Hornets’ other runners, with place and time in parentheses, included: Becky Cresswell (7th, 24:19), Brenna Taylor (9th, 24:43), Brittney Borst (15th, 25:40), Emily Yocum (16th, 25:56), Leighton Scott (19th, 26:33), Jenna Morgan (21st, 27:02), Megan Ayers (22nd, 27:08), Tiffany Hawn (26th, 28:09) and Samantha James (38th, 23:46).
The Trojans’ other runners were: Krista Feathers (13th, 25:34); Stacy Lantz (24th, 27:28), Monica Rosensteel (29th, 29:05), Breanne Long (31st, 29:33), Shaunna Seibert (34th, 30:24) and Rachel Bowser (35th, 30:42).
Adam Pietropaolo of Indian Valley won individual honors in the boys’ race with a time of 17:53.35. Benjamin Matthews of Lewistown was a gnat’s eyelash behind in second place at 17:53.91. IV produced the next three finishers in Adam Korona (19:02), Noah Loht (19:08) and Mark Yoder (19:40).
Mount Union’s other runners were: Dustin Drake (7th, 19:44), Dave Grove (18th, 21:31), Rob Burke (21st, 22:19), Antwaun Loner (26th, 22:52), Erik Starr (31st, 27:36), Nick Sentman (32nd, 27:43) and Cody Hollibaugh (33rd, 27:44).
Juniata Valley’s runners included: David Lamberson (14th, 20:43), Laben Wenger (17th, 21:15) and Tom Adams (28th, 23:51).
Next up for the county teams is the Mountain Athletic Conference Meet next Wednesday, Oct. 18, at Indian Valley Middle School in Milroy. The District Six Meet will be held at the same site Thursday, Oct. 26.
