Purple Iris, one of the last of Andy Moore’s water colors, will be featured at the Third Annual High Tea at the Trinity Episcopal Church.
The gorgeous painting, 15 inches by 25 inches, will be offered in a raffle at $5 for each chance.
Purple Iris was on display at the Tyrone Hospital last winter and was left to the church by Andy to use as a fundraiser.
Andy, who died in late May, was a well-known artist previously living in Birmingham.
Born in 1913, Andy had created art since he was a child along with his parents of whom he described as very creative in both music and art. He graduated from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. He also had a degree in education from the Pennsylvania State University. He taught at Altoona Area High School for 20 years and another 20 at the Grier School. He was inducted into the Blair County Arts Hall of Fame in 2004.
Andy exhibited his artwork in southern California, Philadelphia, and locally with the Tyrone Regional Arts Council, at St. Francis University, Mount Aloysius College, and the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art.
Andy once said he was inspired by things of great interest in color, shape, form or the unusual, and watercolor was his media of choice.
This is the last of Andy’s works that will be offered to the public.
The popular high tea, festive-holiday occasion will take place on December 2 at 4 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church on Washington Avenue. Tickets for the tea or chances for the painting may be obtained from any church member or by calling Honey Wilson at 684-2055.
