Board members of the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society have elected new officers and appointed a new member of the board of directors at their annual meeting recently.
The board voted to appoint Paul Davis as new President. Davis had served as Vice-president and will assume his new duties in January. Past President Rob Terdiman was chosen to serve as Vice-president for CPHS. Both men will serve two year terms.
Also chosen to repeat as board Treasurer was Deborah Keith.
The board voted to appoint Rick VanEvenhoven as a new board member.
Board members serve for three years and may be elected to a second 3-year term if approved by the board.
In addition, the board agreed to add a special category of “Honorary Board Member” for outgoing board members who have distinguished themselves through gifting to the shelter. The board recognized both Bob Pennington and Dan Lawruk for their long service and contributions to the organization. Honorary board members are invited to attend meetings but do not have voting privileges.
Also, this is a reminder the new Central Pennsylvania Humane Society 2007 “Picture Perfect Pet” calendar is currently available at The Daily Herald office located on Pennsylvania Avenue in Tyrone.
The full color, glossy print calendars feature over 70 local pets who competed for the honor of being pictured as a month, on a special “honorable mention” page or on the front/back cover.
The calendars would make a perfect holiday gift for your co-workers, family members and friends.
The calendars sell for $7 each and are $5 for CPHS card-carrying members.

Finally, CPHS is again offering a great way to help homeless animals this holiday season without actually adopting them. CPHS is kicking off a special “Sponsor a Pet for the Holidays” campaign involving direct donations for specific animals at the shelter.
For $100 (or more), individuals, families, businesses, office workers or groups of friends can sponsor a CPHS “resident” animal throughout the holiday season. The money will go directly to feed and care for that particular animal. In return for the donation, CPHS will post a flier on each sponsored animals’ cage that notes the sponsorship (it can be directly attributed to the sponsor or “in memory” or “in honor” of a person (or animal) of their choice.
The campaign runs through January. Sponsorships are available for any of the animals (about 60) currently housed at the shelter while they wait for new homes.
People interested in sponsoring can choose a particular animal if they like or allow the shelter to choose. The shelter staff will place the flier on his/her cage. If the pet is adopted, the flier will move to another cage to denote the continuing sponsorship.
Also, CPHS has an on-going wish list for those individuals who would like to donate an item to the shelter, which can include: kitty litter, puppy and kitten food, leashes and collars, toys and treats for the animals, bleach and laundry detergent, medium-sized gloves for cleaning, old blankets and towels, copy paper, postage stamps, hand sanitizer and paper towels.
