The Bellwood-Antis junior high basketball team won its season-opener yesterday with a 29-14 victory over Mount Union at B-A Middle School Gymnasium.
After a cold first quarter, the Blue Devils trailed 6-2 in the second quarter before Nate Plummer scored seven straight points to give B-A an 9-6 lead. The Devils led 10-8 at halftime.
B-A held the Trojans to just six points in the second half.
“It was nice to open the season with a win and nice to see the team have to win one right away where they were forced to play tough and overcome a physical team,” said B-A coach Kerry Naylor
Nate Plummer led the Blue Devils with a game-high 13 points, while Dillon Shultz scored five. Zach Dionis added four.
“Nate is a great athlete, but he also is a real competitor,” said Naylor. “When we weren\’t hitting our shots and needed a spark, he was there to put us on his shoulders.”
Bellwood-Antis (1-0) hosts Claysburg-Kimmel Monday.
