Blair County dog licenses for 2007 are now available in Tyrone and in other municipalities in the county.
Residents of all Blair County municipalities, except Altoona, must secure a county license for their dogs. The City of Altoona has its own dog licensing system.
The cost for a county license is $8 or $6 of a dog is spayed or neutered. An additional $2 discount is available for dog owners aged 65 and older.
A press release from county Treasurer James Carothers said residents are urged to purchase licenses by Jan. 31, 2007 to avoid being fined by the State Dog Warden. Local dog wardens are planning to canvass extensively for dogs without licenses and rabies vaccinations.
Dog owners can buy licenses at the Treasurer’s Office on the first floor of the new part of the Blair County Courthouse at 423 Allegheny Street in Hollidaysburg from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
In addition to the Treasurer’s Office, Blair County residents can also buy licenses at a number of satellite locations for an additional 50-cent fee.
Carothers told The Daily Herald about another option county dog owners may use. The county offers a lifetime license. Applications for the lifetime license are available only at the treasurer’s office.
The cost is $51 for a dog that is not spayed or neutered and $31 for a dog that is spayed or neutered. Residents 65 and older pay a reduced rate for the lifetime license. They pay $31 and $21 respectively for the lifetime license.
Carothers did note those buying a lifetime license in Blair County can transfer it for a small fee should they relocate to another county in the state. He also explained a resident’s address is considered their physical location and not their mailing address. For example, someone with a rural Altoona address but residing outside of the City of Altoona borders would require a county license. He also advised those living in bordering counties such as Huntingdon or Centre counties to contact the dog licensing department in those counties.
Blair County residents in the Tyrone area may obtain a license at Ace Fix-IT Hardware, 1112 Logan Avenue in Tyrone.
