Venturing, the program most recently implemented by the Boy Scouts of America, is represented well in the Tyrone area.
Venturing is a program for young men and women ages 15 to 20 years of age. This program was designed for youth who are looking for a more age appropriate program. Venturing was an updated version of the former Explorer program.
Venturing is off to a good start. There are two Venture Crews in the Tyrone area.
Venture Crew 103 was the first one organized locally. Crew 103 is sponsored by the Bald Eagle United Methodist Church. Crew 103 members have recently participated in activities such as a trip to Washington, D.C., where they got a chance to see the sights of the nation’s capitol. They will also be participating in a tubing, skiing, and snowboarding outing at Mystic Mountain, near Ohiopyle later this month. Youth interested in joining Crew 103, or wishing to learn more information may call Mike Yeaton at 934-7411.
The next Venture Crew organized locally was Venture Crew 300. Crew 300 is sponsored by St. Matthew’s Church. This organization’s focus is “High Adventure”. They participate in various camping trips and white water rafting trips each summer. Rafting is their main event each year. Crew 300 is preparing to try a brand new activity and a first time experience for the members and their leaders. In the near future, members of Crew 300 will be taking Scuba diving lessons. Youth interested in joining Crew 300 or learning more information may call Mary Walker at 686-0448.
Venturing has proven to be a successful program for the Boy Scouts of America. The local youth is encouraged to join these fine organizations.
In tomorrow’s Daily Herald, the Cub Scout Packs will be featured, which serves elementary-aged boys in the Tyrone area.
