The Tyrone Area Community Organization’s Annual Radio Auction, which is the group’s largest fundraiser of the year, was deemed a huge success as over $9,000 was raised during the weekend of February 10 – 11.
“We had a long weekend, but it was good; it was profitable,” said Ruth Brower, president of TACO.
The Radio Auction was aired live over WTRN 1340 AM, and The Daily Herald office was transformed into the headquarters for the event, where the items and the phone lines were located.
Area residents participated by listening to TACO members describe donated items from area businesses and organizations over the airwaves, and anyone interested in bidding on an item, called in with an offer.
The money TACO raises helps to fund the projects the service organization sponsors for the Tyrone community in the coming year, and it is the group’s largest fund raiser of the year. TACO sponsors such events as the Easter egg hunt, the fish rodeo, the Tyrone Halloween parade, a Distinguished Service Award and Boss of the Year Award. It also sponsors a pee-wee baseball team and youth football competition as well as awards four scholarships of $500 each to seniors at Tyrone Area High School.
